This course provides information from a range of theoretical perspectives to enable students to gain insight into the developmental characteristics and competencies of children birth to five years of age. The course has a focus on soft entry early intervention and prevention and provides a transdisciplinary approach to working with children and families which aims to produce practitioners who can engage with children in integrated settings. Students will engage in professional practice with children birth to five years of age and their families across a range of early year settings. B Education student must complete this placement in a service with children aged 0-36 months. As part of the embedded placement students are required to attend all on campus classes or online tutorials, Pre-requisite: 1010HSV Lifespan Development or 2026HSV Childhood: The Early Years. Pre-req is NOT enforced for B Education students completing the Early Childhood Education minor. Restriction: Student must be in program 1095 Bachelor of Child and Family Studies, or 1567 Bachelor of Education or 1637 Bachelor of Child, Youth and Family Practice.
