You will learn about the role of scientific data gathering in psychology which underpins all evidence-based practice. Basic research approaches will be described and the manner in which research is communicated (e.g., research psychology report) will be practised. You will gain skills in the description of data using basic graphical (e.g., histograms) and numerical (e.g., mean and standard deviation) methods. The association between variables through scatterplots and correlations is examined and you will learn how to calculate and interpret the confidence interval of the mean and make inferences using t-tests. You will learn to create and interpret output from the statistical software package SPSS for these statistical techniques.
