Principles of Game Design introduces the student to the broad topic of game design and the variety of forms the game design role can take in modern game development. This varied perspective includes: tabletop (board) game design and digital game development; independent scale to working within larger production teams, and; games for entertainment, education, critical and artistic purposes. The practice of game design involves many skills - including teamwork, concept development, mechanics and system design, prototyping, design communication, evaluation and testing, and experience design. In the process of designing their own games and testing and evaluating the games of others, students will draw on theory from many academic disciplines that support game design, in addition to current knowledge, principles and methods in the field of game design.
