This course is an introduction to some of the key approaches to the interpretation of art and art history. Following from 1216QCA, the course begins with typical genres of art (landscape, portraiture, and the nude) and considers the theoretical issues raised by them. The theories (or methods of art interpretation) examined include: iconology, semiotics, critical theory, feminist decolonial and indigenous approaches to art. This course must be successfully completed prior to commencing 2nd year level art theory courses. Prerequisites: Nil
