This subject presents an overview of Indigenous art from each of the major regions of Australia as well as recent developments in urban Indigenous art. The central issue dealt with is that of industrialisation and its effect on culture in general. Studio work involves choosing an approach or theme suggested by several of the examples, justifying its appropriateness for the student's own use, and producing a series of works in response to those chosen. Assessment is via essay and studio critique.
