This course provides an introduction to the major chemical and physical processes affecting chemicals and chemical families in natural environments such as water and the atmosphere. The sources, relevant physicochemical properties, detection and measurement of important contemporary environmental pollutants are discussed together with their impact and ecosystem and human health. Pollutants include hydrocarbons, polymers, pesticides and metals. Laboratory activities will provide practical experience in monitoring and chemical analysis. Prerequisites: 1021SCG Chemistry 1A. Incompatible: 2203ENV Environmental Chemistry and Monitoring.
