Rivers and Catchments (2304ENV)

This course explores the theoretical background and current issues relating to freshwater, estuarine and marine ecosystems with a strong focus on Australian examples. Topics cover pure ecology as well as aspects of aquatic resource management. Workshops provide an introduction to the plants and animals of aquatic systems together with methods of collection and monitoring. A major assessment item is a Literature Review on a topic relevant to aquatic issues and/or theory, and improving scientific writing skills is an additional focus of the workshops. Incompatible: 3051ENV Aquatic Ecology, 2304ENV Freshwater Ecology. Prerequisite: 1041SCG Biological Systems
