Managing Learning (2999EDN)

Managing Learning develops knowledge, skills, practices and strategies for planning effective teaching and learning experiences, and for creating and maintaining safe and supportive learning environments with a focus on managing classrooms and challenging behaviour. The course consolidates understandings of learning, learners, planning and curriculum; and introduces contemporary approaches in positive behaviour management that include demonstrating knowledge and understanding of strategies for differentiating teaching to respond to the strengths and meet the needs of students from diverse backgrounds and across the full range of abilities. A 15 day professional experience placement is embedded in the course, in either Years Prep - 6 (for students in the Primary Major) or Years 7 - 9/Junior Secondary (for students in the Secondary Major). The placement provides an opportunity for professional learning of teacher practice and knowledge in these key areas at the classroom level. Prerequisite: All students must have successfully completed 1999EDN Teaching as a Profession. Primary Major students must have met the Senior Science prerequisite to undertake any course in the Primary Major. Primary students considering the Early Childhood Double Major must undertake the 2999EDN placement in an upper primary year level. Secondary Major students must have completed a minimum of 1 Teaching Area content course, and 1 junior secondary curriculum and pedagogy course in the same teaching area to undertake this secondary placement. To be eligible to attend the Professional Experience component of this course and to complete the course students must demonstrate 80% Attendance and 100% Engagement (see 4.2 for conditions). All Professional Experience courses are designated courses for the purpose of exclusion; if you fail you are listed for exclusion from the program of studies.
