The available internship is placement with the Griffith Tax Clinic. Students working at the Griffith Tax Clinic provide important assistance to vulnerable members of the community, by providing tax advice to members of the public who are struggling with their tax obligations. Students will have a fantastic opportunity to learn first-hand how their studies are relevant and can be applied to real taxpayers. The course challenges motivated students to apply their knowledge and training in this real-world setting by offering them the opportunity to participate in a work integrated learning (WIL) activity at the Griffith Tax Clinic. This internship is relevant to students in the various disciplines or majors, particularly Accounting, Finance, Financial Planning, Economics, and/or Tax. The Griffith Tax Clinic is operated from the Logan campus and students are expected to be on campus to perform their duties (unless direction from the University restricts on campus activities). Allocation of students to a place in the Griffith Tax Clinic is at the discretion of the Course Convenor. Students are supported by the Course Convenor, a WIL Coordinator and/or an Academic Supervisor, and a registered tax agent. Despite this support, students must maintain professional standards and take responsibility for their learning and development. Prerequisites: Completed approximately half of their relevant degree - Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Business and the successful completion of the course: Taxation Law (2150AFE) and/or Taxation Planning for Advisors (3150AFE). There is an application process which closes approximately 4 weeks prior to the commencement of the Trimester. It is a requirement to register and submit a resume and application letter. Students who meet these requirements will then be interviewed to determine selection into the course. Enrolment in this course is restricted to students who have completed the registration and application process and have secured an internship position with Griffith Tax Clinic.
