Environmental Assessment (3017ENV)

This course introduces the concepts and methods of evaluating the biophysical and social consequences of changes in land use or policies related to land use. The focus is on environmental impact assessment, but set in a wider context of development assessment, decision making and environmental management. This course seeks to provide students with an understanding of the legal and procedural requirements of environmental assessment, identification, prediction, evaluation and mitigation. The course also aims to provide students with an awareness of problems and issues in environmental assessment, such as, the timing of environmental assessment within the development process, uncertainty in impact prediction and difficulties in assessing cumulative impacts.
