Professional Practice (3029DOH)

Professional Practice provides the students with the opportunity to experience the use of materials and further develop skills required to conduct dental technical procedures. The course is intended to develop an awareness or appreciation of the range of treatment regimes and recognise and, apply design solutions to regain form and function of the oral cavity. Through the development of: knowledge and skills, evaluation of work practices and a critical eye for detail this course provides students with a framework that underpins quality work practices for the graduate Dental Technologist. The course aims to relate to the 'real-life' environment of a dental laboratory. Providing an 'in context' atmosphere requires professional behaviour, critical evaluation of work practices, communication with health professionals and the application of teamwork. Practical artistic skills are developed, improved and built on throughout this course. The course allows students to develop their time management and technical skills, while communicating with clinicians at the same time understanding the financial and operational nature of a dental laboratory. Real life real time learning maximises the learning opportunity to prepare the student beyond graduation. Students will have the opportunity to learn in the team environment. Pre-requisites: All year 2 courses must have been successfully completed prior to proceeding to year 3 courses AND students must have successfully completed all trimester 1 courses prior to enrolling in this course.
