3036HSV (Social Work 1) provides knowledge acquisition related to social work theories and their application across fields of practice. The course addresses key theories and practice methods in contemporary social work and how essential theory is to social work practice, students' developing practice framework and to achieving practice standards. The development of theories in relationship to historical and socio-political contexts are explored as well as their relevance to interpersonal and community work. Students will develop the capacity to critically appraise various approaches used in practice and to understand theory in the context of their first field placement. Prerequisites: 160CP of all core courses from Years 1 & 2 Corequisite: 3012HSV Social Work Field Placement 1
