Medical Nutrition Therapy is the evidence-based process used by Dietitians to treat nutrition-related problems in individuals. The course starts by describing the principles of evidence-based research and how they are applied to Medical Nutrition Therapy. The course covers applications in chronic disease and malnutrition. The main areas encountered in dietetics (including adult weight management, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and malnutrition screening and assessment) are covered in the course through lectures and tutorials including case presentations. This course forms the foundation for Medical Nutrition Therapy 2, which completes the coverage of disease states encountered by dietitians, particularly in the hospital inpatient setting. Pre-requisites: 2220AHS Food Science, 2011MSC Metabolism, 2002MSC Pathophysiology, 2012AHS Integrated Systems Physiology, 2008MSC Structural Biochemistry Co-requisites: 3104AHS Nutrition Education. Restricted to students enrolled in 1355 Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics.
