3203ENG Renewable energy systems cover the fundamental and applied aspects of clean energy systems based on renewable energy resources. The focus is on wind, solar and biomass energy resources, which are studied in some depth. Emerging renewable energy systems based on marine resources, geothermal resources and hydro as also considered but not in the same detail. The final section of the course will cover environmental and economic impacts of renewable energy systems. The course delivery is by weekly lectures and tutorials. Practical work is compulsory and laboratory reports must be submitted. Use is made of spreadsheets and other software programs for evaluation of energy resources. In addition to the material in the textbook and that presented in the formal lectures, students will have access to online reading lists and other resources such as mini-lectures, lecture notes, module notes, and tutorial captures and workshops videos. These online resources will enable some independent learning activities.
