Refugee Law and Policy Clinic (5125LAW)

6 penultimate/final year students work at the Refugee and Immigration Legal Service (RAILS) at West End, Brisbane. Students assist RAILS clients with a range of migration issues under the supervision of experienced RAILS solicitors. 5124LAW- Immigration and Refugee law, is a prerequisite subject, although in some instances we accept students with other relevant subjects eg administrative law. The attendance requirement is one full day per week (9-5pm) in weeks 1-12. If students miss a day for an unavoidable reason, they must make up the time by arrangement with their supervisor. Full attendance or equivalent to make up the 12 days is required to meet this component of the course. As there is no placement during student vacation. this is one option for making up missed days. NB the induction session In week 1 is compulsory, as it is a comprehensive outline of both the work you will be doing, and RAILS policies, procedures and operating systems. Information on application process is available at the LLB and JD Organisation sites on Learning@Griffith. Prerequisite: Students must be in their final or penultimate year of their degree program to undertake this course and must have the attributes described under "assumed background" in the course profile.
