Dissertation Preparation (6001HLS)

This course is offered as a one week intensive course run in Orientation week (O week) in Tri 1 & Tri 2). It is available to students enrolled in Health Group Honours programs, the Graduate Diploma in Health Research (4161), the Master of Medical Research (5433 and 5626), Master of Advanced Practice with Honours (5425) and Master of Advanced Practice (5424) - Health Care Research strand only. The course must be listed in your program. Students are presented with a framework to develop their research proposal. Students will be expected to clearly define their research topic and communicate this in both written and verbal forms. Students will develop proficiency in searching databases, compiling literature relevant to their dissertation topic and critically reviewing the literature to identify gaps. They will formulate their research aims and explain the significance of their research to an audience of their peers. Finally students will also be required to identify research methods and analytical tools that can be utilized in their study. This course is incompatible with 7001HSV (Foundations of Research Inquiry in Health).
