Applied Counselling provides an introduction to counselling theories and approaches commonly used in the fields of social work, human services, mental health, nursing and rehabilitation counselling. Students will be provided with an opportunity to acquire counselling knowledge and skills that can assist individuals to find new ways to lead more productive and satisfying lives. This learning opportunity includes a focus on micro skills, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. The course will provide students with an understanding of the importance of ethics in in their practice and considers the multicultural context in which practitioners work.
