Interventions and Recovery in Forensic Mental Health (7041CCJ)

This course will examine the key effective treatments and therapies common to forensic mental health. This program builds upon the student's knowledge of the relationship between offending and mental health for those clients within forensic mental health. The treatments described and evaluated include psychopharmacology, cognitive behavioural therapy, relapse prevention, motivational interviewing, dialectical behavioural therapy and behavioural interventions. Students will be provided with the theoretical background and then practical demonstrations of key components within the psychological interventions by clinicians in the field. This course will also provide students with a self-reflective practice component to enhance their practice within the field.
