Managing Complex Projects (7115IBA)

Complex projects occur not only in manufacturing, supply chain and construction industries. Complex projects emerge across diverse industries including healthcare, energy and utilities, aviation, consulting, mining and public administration. This unit provides an innovative approach to analyse projects with ill-defined scope, unstable and ambiguous requirements, stretched timelines and budget and, stakeholders with multiple views in shifting contexts. Therefore, solutions need to be novel, multidisciplinary and adaptive to changing conditions. Taking a multidisciplinary approach, this course provides a combination of theoretical insights and practical conceptual tools to diagnose project complexity, and to make decisions about organizing complex projects. Unlike conventional project management courses that focus solely on the planning and control dimensions of predictable and stable projects, this course focuses on 'cross-industry' projects. Those are novel, non-routine, complex and developed in dynamic environments. This means that this course is a suitable elective for professionals from a range of disciplines and programs including, business administration, ICT, environmental engineering, public health, event management, public administration, aviation management and climate change adaptation.
