Provide the support women and their newborns need to successfully start and sustain breastfeeding. Guided by the Baby Friendly Health Initiative Framework, you will explore factors that impact successful initiation, establishment and maintenance of the mother-infant breastfeeding relationship. Develop skills in critical analysis, evaluation of current practices and proactive strategies to support women to overcome breastfeeding challenges and achieve their goals. A key lesson is the impact of formula feeding on the infant, mother and community, including the importance of support for women who decide not to breastfeed. Additionally, you'll study anatomy, physiology, and the physical and psychological aspects of lactation to enable sustained breastfeeding relationships post birth. Whether you work in social work, public health, or as a midwife or advanced practice nurse, this course, with its focus on interprofessional education, will ensure you can provide the best care to mothers across a range of contexts. The knowledge and skills gained include empathetic communication, engagement and collaboration that will enable you to facilitate best practice healthcare and support for infants and their mothers managing breastfeeding and lactation.
