Practicum 1 (8181PSY)

In this course, you will complete coursework and clinical activities which constitute a practical internship within the Psychology Clinic of the university. Full time students complete two internships (Internship 1 - 8181PSY in T1, and Internship 2 - 8180PSY_P1 in T2, and 8180PSY_P2 in T3). You will be an intern in the clinic and work as a provisionally registered clinical psychologist under close clinical supervision. Intensive pre-practicum training provides you with a minimum standard of clinical skills before commencing with clients in the Psychology Clinic. The applied focus of this internship is designed to increase your competence in managing a therapeutic caseload, utilising both face-to-face and online delivery of psychological services. You are trained to have a sense of 'ethical mindedness' and will have the opportunity to practice applying your ethical decision-making skills with a range of ethical dilemmas and problems. By the end of the internship, you are expected to have an established repertoire of core psychological competencies, including a thorough understanding of professional and ethical issues in psychological practice. You are expected to be familiar with the APS Code of Ethics and Ethical Guidelines, as well as the National Mental Health Practice Standards, and the Requirements of the Psychologists registration with Psychology Board of Australia. This course is a non-graded course and students who pass the course will receive a non-graded pass (NGP) on their transcript. You must have satisfactory performance on all assessment tasks to receive a non-graded pass in the course.
