Australia's Visa System (7132LAW)

This course is the third of eight courses that comprise the Graduate Diploma of Australian Migration Law and Practice. The Graduate Diploma of Australian Migration Law and Practice is one of the prescribed academic qualifications for registration as a migration agent in Australia. In this course students will acquire a detailed knowledge of the legislative requirements and related policy for various visa classes and subclasses. In order to apply this legislative knowledge and accurately advise their clients according to individual circumstances, they will also learn how to gather relevant information from their client. Using this knowledge they will learn how to provide accurate advice to clients on visa options and complex visa-related issues, and also prepare and lodge a successful visa application. While legislative knowledge is the focus of 7132LAW, students will learn to apply this knowledge in the context of problem-based client scenarios which provide a practical background to the more theoretical focus of this course. The companion course to 7132LAW is 7232LAW (Practitioner Skills) which simultaneously build on the practical background to immerse students in a virtual office environment. Like the other companion courses in the Graduate Diploma Program, in 7232LAW students will learn and apply practitioner skills they need to effectively integrate the legislative content they acquire in 7132LAW. In addition to the horizontal alignment between 7132LAW & 7232LAW, both courses are also aligned with the previous courses in the Program (7131LAW & 7231LAW) and the subsequent courses 7133LAW & 7233LAW and 7134LAW & 7234LAW. The deliberate alignment allows students to progress logically through the growing complexity of both legal and practitioner skills as they follow the life of a client file from initial client contact to file closure.
