Bachelor of Psychological Science

The Bachelor of Psychological Science is offered full-time via blended mode at the Gold Coast and Mount Gravatt campuses. You would generally expect to commit 100 - 150 hours per trimester to study for each course you are enrolled in. This would involve attending scheduled (i.e. set timetabled) online lectures and on-campus small group active learning classes, as well as engaging in asynchronous (non-timetabled) online learning modules and independent study and assessment completion. Scheduled classes may be set during the day and evening throughout the week.

Students may take a reduced study load. You will be classed as a part-time student if you enrol in less than 30 credit points per trimester. This may affect entitlement to Centrelink benefits. International students must maintain a full-time study load.

Student Income Support

To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each standard study period. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program is 30 credit points.

Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 are deemed standard study periods. As Trimester 3 is a non-standard study period, continuing students moving from one year to the next will not be required to study during this trimester to be eligible for student income support.

Domestic students who commence in Trimester 3 may be eligible for student income support from the onset of study provided they are enrolled full-time in this study period.

As a Bachelor of Psychological Science graduate, you¿ll be prepared for a career in counselling, guidance, health management, social research, human services, social welfare and other related fields including health and organisational workplaces.

Psychological science graduates are employed in a wide range of occupations and industries including community services, corrections, business (as performance and workforce managers), marketing, the police service and defence forces, and health research and policy. 

To practice as a psychologist in Australia, you must be registered with the Psychology Board of Australia. To be eligible for registration, you must complete an accredited fourth year in psychology - at Griffith, the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) - as well as further postgraduate study in psychology.  

As a graduate, you may also be eligible for entry into postgraduate degrees in areas such as social work, speech pathology, education, rehabilitation counselling, forensic mental health, criminology and criminal justice.

The Bachelor of Psychological Science is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC).

As a Bachelor of Psychological Science graduate, you will be eligible for Affiliate Membership of the Australian Psychological Society. Further study is required to qualify for provisional registration as a Psychologist.

A range of study pathways is available to students who meet the specified requirements for admission. These include a one year Honours program in Psychology as well as postgraduate programs in Health, Business, Education and allied fields.
