About this program

In the Bachelor of Exercise Science degree, you will gain core knowledge and skills in the physical, biomedical and psychological sciences. As this degree is the pathway to the Master of Physiotherapy (5320), you will also study the science of exercise, human performance and maintenance of health, which are all prerequisites for postgraduate studies in physiotherapy.

Attendance information

This program will be offered full-time and on-campus at the Gold Coast.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Exercise Science (1344), will not be required to undertake any professional placements. However, students who intend to progress (upon successful completion of this program) to the Master of Physiotherapy should be aware of the requirements for undertaking professional placements in the Masters program - see the Master of Physiotherapy (5320) for more details.

To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each semester. This may affect your entitlement to Centrelink benefits. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program are 30 credit points.

My career opportunities

You will be prepared for work as an exercise specialist for community or sports organisations, as a clinical scientist specialising in cardiac, respiratory and sleep medicine, as a rehabilitation, sports or recreation manager, a strength and conditioning coach, or as an occupational health and safety officer. As a graduate, you may also be eligible for graduate entry into a teacher preparation degree.

Professional recognition

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Exercise Science (1344) and the two-year Master of Physiotherapy (5320), graduates will be eligible to apply for registration with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia (via the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency) subject to meeting any additional requirements that may be stipulated by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia . As these requirements may change from time to time, students should contact the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency to confirm registration requirements.

Pathways to further study

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Exercise Science (1344), if you have attained a GPA of at least 5.0, you will be guaranteed entry to the Master of Physiotherapy (5320). If your GPA is below 5.0, you are eligible to apply for the Master of Physiotherapy but you will also need to attend an interview and are not guaranteed a place in the program.

Commonwealth supported students

  • Commonwealth supported students make a student contribution towards the cost of their courses while the majority of the cost is subsidised by the Australian Government.
  • Students are liable for the student contribution charge for the courses they are enrolled in as at the census date.
  • HECS-HELP is a loan scheme which provides eligible Commonwealth supported students with assistance in paying their student contribution charge.

FEE-HELP

Eligible undergraduate fee-paying students may defer their tuition fees by taking out a FEE-HELP loan which is part of the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP). Payment of the loan is via the taxation system when income reaches a specified level.
