Trimester 1, Trimester 2 and Trimester 3
Brisbane South (Nathan) will be offered from Trimester 2 2025.
Gain the theoretical knowledge and applied skills to register and practice as a professional counsellor. You'll be ready to work in a broad range of counselling organisations, supporting people to resolve their personal, work or relationship problems.
Working in counselling involves guiding and empowering people to develop self-understanding and make changes in their lives in order to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals.
You'll gain counselling skills and advanced theoretical knowledge by completing courses in counselling theory and practice, therapeutic interventions, group facilitation, career counselling, positive psychology, lifespan development, professional ethics and case management.
As healthcare changes and mental health awareness and understanding continue to grow, you'll learn through interprofessional collaborative teaching and learning and will be equipped to help create a healthier future for all.
Put your skills into practice and support the community while you study through clinical placements, either at our on-campus clinics, or one of the many leading healthcare providers we partner with.
Professional experience is built into the Bachelor of Counselling, with off-campus counselling training to prepare you for placement opportunities. This degree includes an internship and finishes with two counselling placements where you'll work with real clients in counselling organisations.
You'll learn from practising experts who are contributing to some of Australia's most crucial research projects at our Griffith Centre for Mental Health, addressing key issues such as youth mental health, parenting and family interventions.
The Bachelor of Counselling is offered full-time and part-time on campus. You may choose to study courses at other campuses if or where the program structure allows. As a full-time student you will generally attend 10-15 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the trimester. Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week.
To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each standard study period. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program is 30 credit points.
Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 are deemed standard study periods. As Trimester 3 is a non-standard study period, continuing students moving from one year to the next will not be required to study during this trimester to be eligible for student income support.
Domestic students who commence in Trimester 3 may be eligible for student income support from the onset of study provided they are enrolled full-time in this study period.
Please refer to the Australian Government website for more details.
Taking a leave of absence from this program is permitted, subject to conditions outlined in the Enrolment Procedure.
