For the award of Bachelor Education (BEd), you must successfully complete 320 credit points, made up of the core courses AND:
Primary Education
- 200 credit points for the Primary Education major (including 40 credit points for the professional experience courses) and
- 40 credit points for a minor in English, Mathematics or Science.
- 180 credit points for the Primary Education major (including 40 credit points for the professional experience courses) and
- 60 credit points for a major in Early Childhood Education or Health and Physical Education or Special Needs Education.
AND
- meet the Literacy and Numeracy Benchmark in the test administered by ACER on behalf of AITSL.*
OR
Secondary Education
- 80 credit points for the Secondary Education major (including 40 credit points for the professional experience courses) and
- two 80 credit point teaching areas.
- 80 credit points for the Secondary Education major (including 40 credit points for the professional experience courses) and
- 80 credit points for one teaching area and
- 80 credit points for the Learning Support major.
- meet the Literacy and Numeracy Benchmark in the test administered by ACER on behalf of AITSL.*
OR
AND
* You will need to successfully complete the National Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE) to graduate from the program. You are permitted three test attempts in total for each component. If you fail three test attempts for each component, you will not be able to graduate.
This degree may be awarded with Distinction where a student achieves a minimum program GPA of 6.5 with no failed courses. The words "This award was achieved with Distinction" will be recorded on the testamur.
Designated courses for the purposes of exclusion
The following courses which have a Professional Practice component are designated for the purposes of the Academic Standing, Progression and Exclusion Policy.
Compulsory Tutorial Attendance for All Professional Experience Courses
In line with AITSL Professional Experience Roles and Responsibilities, Griffith University preservice teachers must reach an 80% threshold for tutorial attendance and active participation in the lead up to placement and follow on from placement for all Professional Experience courses. Students who cannot attend the full tutorial and thus cannot actively participate during the tutorial will not be able to proceed with the placement and/or complete the course. Students will be administratively withdrawn from the course and will need to contact "educationconnect@griffith.edu.au" to request a new program plan.

A student who fails a Professional Practice component in any of these courses will be subject to review by the Education Assessment Board and may be excluded from the program. A student who fails the same course twice will also be subject to review by the Education Assessment Board and may be excluded from the program.
