About this program

The Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care is designed to provide qualified registered teachers the opportunity to teach in pre-school settings (1-5 years) as well as specialise in the early years of school (5-8 years) to enhance their development as a professional.

The Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care program is offered in an online delivery mode only.

Work-integrated learning

Students in this program must undertake:

  • a minimum of 10 days professional experience with children aged birth to 2 years,
  • 40 days working with children 2 to 5 years; and
  • 10 days in a 5 to 8 years setting; students who have completed an initial teacher primary education program may be exempt from completing this requirement.

Graduates will be eligible to be employed as the registered early childhood teacher in prior-to-school settings including long day care and kindergartens.

This program is professionally recognised by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA).

Pathways to further study

Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care will be eligible for entry into the Master of Education (5601) for advanced professional learning or the Master of Education and Professional Studies Research (5608) to follow a program of study leading to Higher Degree Research.

This postgraduate program has Commonwealth Supported Places. If you are eligible, the Australian Government will contribute to the cost of this program but you will also be required to make a contribution. Quotas are applied for admission to the Commonwealth Supported Places. Where demand exceeds the number of available places and all places have been filled for the current admission period, applicants who meet minimum program entry requirements may be eligible for a Fee-Paying Postgraduate place if such places are available. Please note that deferrals are not permitted for programs with Commonwealth Supported Places.
