The Diploma of Applied Science is a pathway program designed to help you transition into the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Environmental Science. You'll develop foundational knowledge and skills in a supportive learning environment, setting you up for success in your future studies.
You'll study academic foundations courses on chemical, biological and environmental science concepts. with additional support and access to a dedicated First Year Coordinator and (PASS) run by high-achieving students.
You'll have access to experts from renowned research centres focused on solving the big problems. They're developing new drugs to combat cancer and infectious diseases, new sources of energy to power our society, and new ways to manage our waterways and improve food production.
If you continue this pathway into the bachelor degree, you will have the chance to participate in hands-on learning opportunities, including internships, industry placements, national and international field trips and leading research projects.
The Diploma of Applied Science is offered full-time and part-time on-campus.
As a full-time student you will generally attend 15-25 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the trimester. Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week.
To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each standard study period. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program is 30 credit points.
Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 are deemed standard study periods. As Trimester 3 is a non-standard study period, continuing students moving from one year to the next will not be required to study during this trimester to be eligible for student income support.

This diploma provides an opportunity to learn about a broad range of scientific disciplines and gain sought-after science-related skills and knowledge. You can also use this qualification to transition into associated bachelor degrees and do majors to prepare for careers such as environmental scientist, microbiologist, biochemist, chemist, science journalist, and science teacher.

Once you've successfully completed this diploma, you'll be offered guaranteed entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Science (1634) or Bachelor of Environmental Science (1547).

Eligible undergraduate fee-paying students may defer their tuition fees by taking out a FEE-HELP loan which is part of the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP). Payment of the loan is via the taxation system when income reaches a specified level.
