About this program

The Diploma of Education is a pathway program designed to help you transition into the Bachelor of Education. You'll develop foundational knowledge and skills in a supportive learning environment and gain experience in the classroom, setting you up for success in your future studies and employment.

The Diploma of Education will equip you with an understanding of fundamental teaching principles from a global perspective, focusing on digital learning. You'll be introduced to the theory that underpins the work of educators and explore the historical and cultural context of teaching. Discover how social beliefs and attitudes influence the design and delivery of different forms of education. You'll also gain a greater understanding of the factors influencing students' educational experiences and outcomes, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Ranked in Australia's top 5 for teacher education, Griffith's School of Education and Professional Studies continues to drive the future of education, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to your learning. Our lecturers are among the best in Australia and have been recognised with national teaching awards.

You'll study academic foundations courses on educational technologies, curriculum, ethics, teaching methods, assessment, and world Indigenous knowledges, with additional support and access to a dedicated First Year Coordinator and (PASS) run by high-achieving students.

Attendance information

The Diploma of Education may be undertaken full-time or part-time at either the Mt Gravatt, Logan or Gold Coast campus. A full-time student will generally attend 12 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the trimester. Classes are generally scheduled during the day but some are offered during the evening between Monday and Friday.

Attendance is compulsory in Trimester 3 for students that commence in Trimester 2.

Student Income Support

To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each standard study period. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program is 30 credit points.

Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 are deemed standard study periods. As Trimester 3 is a non-standard study period, continuing students moving from one year to the next will not be required to study during this trimester to be eligible for student income support.

Please refer to the Australian Government website for more details.
