About this program

The Diploma of Design is a pathway program to help you transition into the Bachelor of Design. You'll develop foundational knowledge and skills in a supportive learning environment alongside your peers in the bachelor's degree, setting you up for success in your future studies. 

Attendance information

Student Income Support

To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each standard study period. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program is 30 credit points.

Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 are deemed standard study periods. As Trimester 3 is a non-standard study period, continuing students moving from one year to the next will not be required to study during this trimester to be eligible for student income support.

Domestic students who commence in Trimester 3 may be eligible for student income support from the onset of study provided they are enrolled full-time in this study period.

Taking a leave of absence from this program is permitted, subject to conditions outlined in the Enrolment Procedure.

In this diploma, you'll study introductory courses in design concepts, motion design, design technologies, and creative content strategies. These courses underpin the foundations of our three-year Bachelor of Design program, and provide an important basis for formulating and communicating your ideas, for impact. You will also experience a foundation course that prepares you for your university studies while developing transferable skills such asacademic writing, communication and digital literacy.

The Diploma of Design will help you accomplish your learning and professional goals, while fostering a sense of career direction. You will learn in innovative, creative studio spaces at the Queensland College of Art and Design and leverage unique opportunities in our world-class facilities, including galleries and purpose-built design studios. 

Pathways to further study

Combined diploma/degree

Once you've successfully completed this diploma, you'll be offered guaranteed entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Design (1189).
