To be eligible for the award of the Master of Visual Arts Research (MVARes), a student must acquire 160 credit points as prescribed below:

  • Complete the 20 credit point 8906QCA Visual Arts Research Methods in the first trimester of their enrolment;
  • Complete a research project by enrolling in the Studio Practice and Research course each trimester which comprises studio research and a written component to be submitted in the format as prescribed below:
    • For final assessment, students will mount their visual work as a formal exhibition or other appropriate form of publication (site specific installation, video, film, CD, internet site, world wide web publications etc);
    • To accompany their visual work, students will submit a document of at least 10,000 words that will provide a description of the social, artistic and discursive context of the visual work.

Progress review requirements

Completion of progress reporting requirements is a condition of continued candidature for higher degree research programs. The following progress review requirements must be completed for the Master of Visual Arts program:

  • completion of the Early Candidature Milestone within 3 months (equivalent full-time) of commencement.
  • completion of the Confirmation of Candidature Milestone within 6 months (equivalent full-time) of commencement.
  • completion of the Thesis and Candidature Review Milestone within 1.5 years (equivalent full-time) of commencement.
