About this program
You will build on your existing entry-level physiotherapy knowledge to learn about sports and musculoskeletal physiotherapy from experts in special clinical and research content areas. The degree has a focus on evidence-based practice, advanced clinical skills, clinical reasoning and decision making in musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy.
Attendance information
The Master of Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy program is a part-time program offered over two years in the following mode:
(1) on-campus intensive mode full-time (three times per year) at the Gold Coast campus (intensive on-campus periods will be scheduled in February, July and November each year); AND
(2) online and self-directed learning between 2 week intensive periods.
Students will commence study in the on-campus intensive mode courses 7401AHS Applied Biological Science, 7402AHS Clinical Sports and Musculoskeletal Medicine 1 and 7403AHS_P1 Clinical Practice I in February of their year of intake.
It is compulsory to enrol in all courses in the Master of Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy in the prescribed mode. Intensive courses are delivered in short blocks of 2 weeks, usually from 8am to 6pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. It is expected that if you enrol in these courses you will be available to attend.
You will be provided course materials via a variety of means, including electronic and printed materials and via Learning@Griffith. Some textbooks will need to be purchased. You are required to use the internet or other electronic media during your enrolment in this program and access to a reliable computer with internet connection (preferably broadband) and web-cam is required.
Students undertake the program on a part-time basis, enrolling in 25 credit points per trimester. Students will be expected to undertake 10-12 hours of self-directed learning per week per trimester over the duration of the program.
Two week intensive on-campus periods will incorporate lectures, practical sessions and supervised clinical experience. Online learning will incorporate tutorials, lectures and discussion groups to supplement practitioner learning and professional development.
My career opportunities
You may work in private practices or hospitals, or have association with sporting teams and community roles with those interested in sport and physical activity. You may even be involved as a consultant to industry or government, or be involved in teaching and/or research.
On graduation, you will be eligible to apply for both the Australian Physiotherapy Association Musculoskeletal and/or Sports Physiotherapy titles. You will also be able to use this qualification and the knowledge gained as part of a chosen career path towards specialisation in musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy.

The Master of Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy is accredited by Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Australia (MPA) and Sports Physiotherapy Australia (SPA).
Professional recognition
The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) recognises graduates of this award.

The indicative annual tuition fee is calculated based on a standard full-time study load which is usually 80 credit points.

- Students are liable for tuition fees for the courses they are enrolled in as at the census date.
