About this program
In this degree, you will develop the skills needed to work as an occupational therapist to deliver life changing outcomes. You will learn how to enable people to do the activities - occupations - they need or want to do in order to live a meaningful life, but have difficulty with due to illness, injury or other disadvantages.
You will study occupational therapy theory and practice, occupational science, and other sciences such as psychology, sociology and anatomy. With practical placements, starting in first year, you will apply the skills and knowledge to real life situations preparing you for the wide range of opportunities available to occupational therapists.
In this degree, you will join a community of students and experts and learn through social media as well as in the classroom.
Honours is available for this degree.

Attendance information
The program will be offered on-campus on a full-time basis using the in-person mode of delivery every trimester.
Students will need to be available full-time to attend professional practice education in Years 3 and 4.
If you are an International student on a student visa, you must ensure that you enrol in a way that will allow you to complete your enrolment within the expected program duration as stated on your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
Work-integrated learning
Work integrated learning activities integrate theoretical learning with its application in the workplace. The inclusion of work-integrated learning activities in this degree program demonstrates Griffith's commitment to preparing its graduates for success in their working life. It is also an accreditation requirement of both Occupational Therapy Board of Australia/Occupational Therapy Council and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
Work integrated learning in this program is undertaken in the 60 credit points of Occupational Therapy Practice Education courses completed in Years 3 and 4 of the program and integrated in other courses in earlier years (1040 hours). Student performance while on practice education is assessed using the national occupational therapy tool the Student Practice Evaluation Form - Revised Edition. It is also anticipated that quality assurance of practice education will be supported by the use of the Improving Quality in Practice Placements (iQIPP-AH) suite of documents.
Practice education will be managed within School and Health Group policies and processes. Griffith University will also become part of the state-wide network that manages practice education placements.

You will be prepared for a career in a variety of workplaces, including in hospitals, homeless shelters, refugee detention centres, universities, and government departments. You will be able to work with individuals, groups and communities in social enterprises, charities, large companies, schools and prisons.
Program accreditation
The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy offered at the Gold Coast and Nathan campuses has been approved by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia and accredited by the Occupational Therapy Council, Occupational Therapy Australia and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
Professional recognition
Graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as an occupational therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (subject to meeting any additional requirements that may be stipulated by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia). As these requirements may change from time to time, students should contact the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to confirm registration requirements.
Professional Practice requirements
There are placements associated with this program and before undertaking professional experience placements, all students in this program are required to have completed the following by the end of their first trimester of study:

International students
An International student is one who is not:
- an Australian or New Zealand citizen or
- a Pacific Engagement visa holder or
- a person who has Australian permanent resident status.
Indicative annual tuition fee
The indicative annual tuition fee is calculated based on a standard full-time study load which is usually 80 credit points (two full-time trimesters).

Tuition fees
- An International student pays tuition fees.
- Students are liable for tuition fees for the courses they are enrolled in as at the census date.
- The tuition fee for students who commence their program prior to 2014 is charged according to the approved program fee for the trimester in which the student commenced the program.
- The tuition fee for students who commence their program from 2014 onwards is charged according to the approved program fee for the trimester in which the student is enrolled.

Changing programs
If an International student changes to a different program they will be subject to the approved program fee for the trimester in which they are enrolled.
Permanent resident status
If an undergraduate student obtains permanent resident status in Australia after commencing study in a program, and the student can provide evidence of permanent resident status prior to the census date (of the trimester in which they are enrolled), the student will be provided with a domestic fee-paying place.
The student may then apply for a Commonwealth supported place at the next admission period provided that the student satisfies the conditions for transfer from a domestic fee-paying place to a Commonwealth supported place as set out in the Undergraduate Programs Admission Policy.
If a postgraduate student obtains permanent resident status in Australia after commencing study in a program, and the student can provide evidence of permanent resident status prior to the census date (of the trimester in which they are enrolled), the student will automatically be considered for a Commonwealth supported place (subject to availability) or a domestic fee-paying place as applicable for the program.
If a research student obtains permanent resident status in Australia after commencing study in a program, and the student can provide evidence of permanent resident status prior to the census date (of the trimester in which they are enrolled), the student will automatically be considered for a Commonwealth Government Research Training Program (RTP) Fee Offset or a domestic fee-paying place as applicable for the program.
