This postgraduate program provides mental health practitioners and case managers in diverse practice roles with the skills and knowledge to effectively manage programs that support their clients to achieve personal and system goals, as well as work more effectively with people with injury, disability, mental illness, and their significant others.
This includes a wide range of human service and rehabilitation programs supporting diverse populations with complex needs, assisting clients to obtain and maintain employment and supporting people from diverse backgrounds with injury, disability or mental illness to find new ways to lead fulfilling and satisfying lives.
You will be introduced to the values, theories, frameworks, principles and skills of person-centred planning, case management, and communication skills, and therefore become more efficient at determining individual need and planning, coordinating and procuring a range of appropriate services and supports to promote the goals of diverse clients. You'll also gain an understanding of mental illness, epidemiology and relevant theoretical frameworks, which is vital for informing quality mental health practice.

This Graduate Certificate program is offered on a part-time basis via online delivery.
There is no requirement for on-campus attendance. Access to a reliable computer with Internet access is essential.
To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each standard study period. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program is 30 credit points.
Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 are deemed standard study periods. As Trimester 3 is a non-standard study period, continuing students moving from one year to the next will not be required to study during this trimester to be eligible for student income support.
Domestic students who commence in Trimester 3 may be eligible for student income support from the onset of study provided they are enrolled full-time in this study period.

Taking a leave of absence from this program is permitted, subject to conditions outlined in the Enrolment Procedure.
Courses within this degree include work-integrated learning experiences such as: professional practice/work placements, industry projects performed at the university or in a workplace, volunteer work for organisations such as not-for-profit organisations, learning activities within virtual and simulated work environments. Whether you have existing human services or mental health practice experience or are undergoing a career transition, you will be prepared for effective practice within your own profession and for further studies in rehabilitation counselling, human services or community mental health practice, as this degree offers a pathway for you to continue study with one of our Masters programs in Rehabilitation Counselling, Mental Health Practice, or Human Services.

Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate in Case Management and Mental Health with a grade point average of at least 5.0 may apply for admission to the Master of Rehabilitation Counselling (5578), Master of Mental Health Practice (5625), or Master of Human Services (5604).

This postgraduate program has Commonwealth Supported Places. If you are eligible, the Australian Government will contribute to the cost of this program but you will also be required to make a contribution.
Quotas are applied for admission to the Commonwealth Supported Places. Where demand exceeds the number of available places and all places have been filled for the current admission period, applicants who meet minimum program entry requirements may be eligible for a Fee-Paying Postgraduate place if such places are available. Please note that deferrals are not permitted for programs with Commonwealth Supported Places.
