To be eligible for the award of Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Commerce (LLB/BCom), a student must acquire 440 credit points as prescribed below:

  • gain a maximum of 80 credit points for the prescribed first year courses which include:
    • 40 credit points for Law courses and
    • 40 credit points for Commerce courses
    • it is a general requirement that students must have successfully completed all courses in the first year before proceeding to second year courses
  • gain 360 credit points for second, third, fourth and fifth year courses which include:
    • 240 credit points for Law courses comprising:
      • 140 credit points for Law courses and
      • 100 credit points for elective courses of which a minimum of 60 credit points are Law electives and a maximum of 40 credit points are Undergraduate free-choice elective/s
    • 120 credit points of Griffith Business School courses which includes:
      • an 80 credit points Griffith Business School award major
      • 20 credit points for third year Business/Commerce courses
      • 20 credit points of first year level courses which include:
        • either Accounting Principles or Business Statistics (whichever was not completed in first year) and Management Concepts
  • gain a maximum of 120 credit points at first year level
  • gain a minimum of 60 credit points at final year level.

Students completing the Accounting award major as part of the Law/Commerce combined program are granted exemption from 2105AFE Introduction to Business Law and 2106AFE Company Law and are therefore required to only complete 80 credit points for this award major.

This degree may be awarded with Distinction where a student achieves a minimum program GPA of 6.5 with no failed courses. The words "This award was achieved with Distinction" will be recorded on the testamur.

Alternatively, students wishing to undertake the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) are advised to apply for internal transfer to the Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Commerce (1505) or the Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Commerce (1506) prior to graduating from this program.

Testamur information

All students will graduate with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce. Students will receive recognition on their testamur for award major/s completed but not as part of the award title.

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is the national policy for regulated qualifications in Australian education and training. The Bachelor of Commerce and the Bachelor of Laws are accredited as an AQF Level 7 - Bachelor Degree.
