About this program

This is your opportunity to turn your passion for sport into your profession - one with strong employment prospects. Taught on the Gold Coast in world-class facilities, this degree lets you learn the ins and outs of sport development and how to design, deliver and manage recreation activities for the broader community.
Four main areas of study make up this degree: sport science, sport management and marketing, health promotion and sports coaching. You'll also study the specialist field of community development through sport which is all about increasing participation in sport through the design of sport systems and pathways to attract, retain and nurture participants.
Industry and expert connections
You'll gain intensive knowledge of both the academic and applied aspects of sport, health and fitness. You'll also complete the kind of studies industry have told us are key - physiology, biomechanics, sport psychology, sociology, sports management, sport policy, fitness and sports coaching. You'll also complete an 80-hour internship with an industry expert, letting you put your skills and knowledge into practice in an authentic environment.

Attendance information
This program is offered in full-time on-campus at the Gold Coast.
The program incorporates 80 hours of compulsory work-integrated learning (WIL) in community sport and recreation facilities within the course 3434AHS Sport Development Practicum.
Additional attendance information
3011AHS Fitness Practicum I and 3012AHS Fitness Practicum II are delivered with TAFE Queensland. All studies are conducted off campus at TAFE Queensland - Gold Coast and at external workplaces. Note, there are limited places available for enrolment in these courses.
Student Income Support
To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each standard study period. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program is 30 credit points.
Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 are deemed standard study periods. As Trimester 3 is a non-standard study period, continuing students moving from one year to the next will not be required to study during this trimester to be eligible for student income support.
Domestic students who commence in Trimester 3 may be eligible for student income support from the onset of study provided they are enrolled full-time in this study period.

Work-integrated learning
Work-integrated learning activities integrate theoretical learning with its application in the workplace. The inclusion of work-integrated learning activities in this degree program demonstrates Griffith's commitment to preparing its graduates for success in their working life.
Work integrated learning in this program is undertaken in the 10 credit point core course 3434AHS Sport Development Practicum which is completed in Year 3 of the program and will be managed within School and Health Group policies and processes. Students will complete 80 hours of compulsory fieldwork (WIL).

Fee-paying undergraduate (domestic) students

- International students who have been approved to pay domestic tuition fees after obtaining Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency or a permanent humanitarian visa and who have not obtained a Commonwealth supported place.

- A fee-paying undergraduate student pays tuition fees.
- Students are liable for tuition fees for the courses they are enrolled in as at the census date.

FEE-HELP
Eligible undergraduate fee-paying students may defer their tuition fees by taking out a FEE-HELP loan which is part of the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP). Payment of the loan is via the taxation system when income reaches a specified level.
