About this program

The electronics and computer engineering industries play a significant role in society and are evolving rapidly. Engineering technologists bridge the gap between technicians and engineers and work within a team to solve engineering problems.

This degree will prepare you for work as an engineering technologist, with the skills and knowledge needed to advise in planning, designing, operating and maintaining electronic engineering works. This is a shorter degree than our Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and can lead to a fulfilling career as an electronics technical officer. It also offers a pathway to transition into a full engineering degree.

With this degree in-hand, you could be involved in the design and construction of electronic applications and technologies such as:

  • mobile phones
  • satellites
  • communication systems
  • satellite navigation
  • control systems for transport
  • broadband services
  • energy production
  • high-definition television
  • satellite phones

Industry and expert connections

As a student, you'll benefit from Griffith's partnerships with government and industry. You'll have the opportunity to take field trips alongside Bachelor of Engineering students each year. Plus, in your final year of study, you'll take part in an industry placement, giving you the chance to put what you learn in the classroom into practice, gaining the skills and experience employers demand.

Graduate outcomes

This degree is a great fit if you are already employed, as you'll gain the knowledge and skills you need to take your career further, faster. Possible career paths include as an engineering technologist, aviation systems engineer, computer network and systems engineer or data analyst.

Flexibility

Tailor your timetable - Even if you study full-time on-campus, you may still be able to customise your degree to suit your needs. From a range of tutorial times to online access to lectures and other course material, we're here to help you fit study in with your work and life commitments.

Global mobility

Engineering technologists have the skills that can translate the world over, making working overseas a viable option.

Attendance information

The Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Electronic and Computer Engineering is offered full-time and on-campus at Nathan. You may choose to study courses at other campuses if or where the program structure allows.

As a full-time student you will generally attend 20-25 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the trimester. Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week.

Changing programs

If an International student changes to a different program they will be subject to the approved program fee for the trimester in which they are enrolled.

Permanent resident status

If an undergraduate student obtains permanent resident status in Australia after commencing study in a program, and the student can provide evidence of permanent resident status prior to the census date (of the trimester in which they are enrolled), the student will be provided with a domestic fee-paying place.

The student may then apply for a Commonwealth supported place at the next admission period provided that the student satisfies the conditions for transfer from a domestic fee-paying place to a Commonwealth supported place as set out in the Undergraduate Programs Admission Policy.

If a postgraduate student obtains permanent resident status in Australia after commencing study in a program, and the student can provide evidence of permanent resident status prior to the census date (of the trimester in which they are enrolled), the student will automatically be considered for a Commonwealth supported place (subject to availability) or a domestic fee-paying place as applicable for the program.

If a research student obtains permanent resident status in Australia after commencing study in a program, and the student can provide evidence of permanent resident status prior to the census date (of the trimester in which they are enrolled), the student will automatically be considered for a Commonwealth Government Research Training Program (RTP) Fee Offset or a domestic fee-paying place as applicable for the program.
