Bachelor of Occupational Therapy

This program will be offered full-time, on-campus and in-person mode at Nathan.

Students will need to be available full-time to attend professional practice education in Years 3 and 4.

Student Income Support

To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each standard study period. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program is 30 credit points.

Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 are deemed standard study periods. As Trimester 3 is a non-standard study period, continuing students moving from one year to the next will not be required to study during this trimester to be eligible for student income support.

Domestic students who commence in Trimester 3 may be eligible for student income support from the onset of study provided they are enrolled full-time in this study period.

Work integrated learning activities integrate theoretical learning with its application in the workplace. The inclusion of work-integrated learning activities in this degree program demonstrates Griffith's commitment to preparing its graduates for success in their working life. It is also an accreditation requirement of both Occupational Therapy Board of Australia/Occupational Therapy Council and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.

Work integrated learning in this program is undertaken in the 60 credit points of Occupational Therapy Practice Education courses completed in Years 3 and 4 of the program and integrated in other courses in earlier years. Student performance while on practice education is assessed using the national occupational therapy tool the Student Practice Evaluation Form - Revised Edition. It is also anticipated that quality assurance of practice education will be supported by the use of the Improving Quality in Practice Placements (iQIPP-AH) suite of documents.

Practice education will be managed within School and Health Group policies and processes. Griffith University will also become part of the state-wide network that manages practice education placements.

You will be prepared for a career in a variety of workplaces, including in hospitals, homeless shelters, refugee detention centres, universities, and government departments. You will be able to work with individuals, groups and communities in social enterprises, charities, large companies, schools and prisons.

The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy has been approved by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia and accredited by the Occupational Therapy Council, Occupational Therapy Australia and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.

Graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (subject to meeting any additional requirements that may be stipulated by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia). As these requirements may change from time to time, students should contact the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to confirm registration requirements.

There are placements associated with this program and before undertaking professional experience placements, all students in this program are required to have completed the following by the end of their first trimester of study:
