About this program

Cyber security is one of the fastest-growing industries in Australia. With this degree, you'll gain highly sought-after skills to generate and implement innovative cyber security solutions for business, government and individuals. You'll develop the expertise to investigate and identify current and future cyber security threats, conduct risk and vulnerability assessments of networked devices and infrastructure, and generate and implement innovative cyber security solutions. You'll utilise cutting-edge facilities-including the new Cyber Range-to hone your security skills. 

Study topics such as Fundamentals of Cyber Security, Cyber Security Standards and Operations, Cyber Security Defence and Incident Response, Digital Forensics, Ethical Hacking, Cryptography, and Trustworthy AI. 

Your degree will also include core IT knowledge such as programming, networks and data management, and project management. You can also choose from a range of elective courses. In the last year of your studies, you will complete a practical project for industry or research placement providing first-hand experience of the knowledge, skills and attributes required to succeed in full-time employment.

Student Income Support

To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each standard study period. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program is 30 credit points.

Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 are deemed standard study periods. As Trimester 3 is a non-standard study period, continuing students moving from one year to the next will not be required to study during this trimester to be eligible for student income support.

Domestic students who commence in Trimester 3 may be eligible for student income support from the onset of study provided they are enrolled full-time in this study period.

This program is offered via full-time, part-time, on-campus, in-person and online mode. To be classed as full-time, students must enrol in at least three courses per trimester.

Work-integrated learning

Students must complete a 20 credit point Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course in their final year. WIL has been designed to integrate students into the workplace through the completion of an industry-based work, which is designed to benefit both the student and the industry partner. WIL can be taken as either a Placement or team-based project. With Placement, students are placed with an industry partner where students attend their placement 2 days a week to produce the deliverable(s) for that organisation. With team project, students are assigned into a team to work on a project from an industry partner. With either choice, students use their placement or team project as a vehicle to apply what they have learned in their program and demonstrate independent and life-long learning on the job.

The inclusion of work-integrated learning in this program demonstrates Griffith's commitment to preparing its graduates for success in their working life.

Industry experience

Students will gain direct industry experience through the completion of the core 20 credit point Work Integrated Learning course in their capstone year.

As technology continues to advance, the need for cyber security professionals is also on the rise, with the Australian National Skills Commission reporting both a current shortage of cyber security professionals, as well as continued strong future demand for qualified professionals. 

With IT prevalent in all sectors, you'll have the opportunity to work in a range of industries in either government or the private sector, across a range of industries. You will be equipped for potential career opportunities as a cyber security analyst, cyber security architect, cyber security manager, forensic computer analyst, security consultant, and security and compliance auditor.

Commonwealth supported students

  • The indicative fee represents the expected average fee for an annual full-time study load (80 credit points). This is based on average study patterns across courses and the Australian Government's broad discipline areas (student contribution bands). A student's actual annual fee may vary in accordance with his or her choice of majors and electives. The Australian Government sets student contribution amounts on an annual basis.

These fees are only applicable to domestic students who are not Commonwealth supported including:

  • Full-fee paying domestic students who commenced their program prior to 2009.
  • International students who have been approved to pay domestic tuition fees after obtaining Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency or a permanent humanitarian visa and who have not obtained a Commonwealth supported place.

  • A fee-paying undergraduate student pays tuition fees.
  • Students are liable for tuition fees for the courses they are enrolled in as at the census date.
  • The tuition fee is charged according to the approved program fee for the trimester in which the student is enrolled.

FEE-HELP

Eligible undergraduate fee-paying students may defer their tuition fees by taking out a FEE-HELP loan which is part of the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP). Payment of the loan is via the taxation system when income reaches a specified level.
