Master of Primary Maternity Care

To be eligible for the award of the Master of Primary Maternity Care (MPrimaryMaternityCare), a student must acquire 120 credit points as prescribed below:

• Standard pathway:
  • gain 70 credit points for core courses;
  • gain 10 credit points for a research elective course;
  • gain 40 credit points for listed elective courses.
• Dissertation pathway:
  • gain 60 credit points for core courses;
  • gain 10 credit points for a research elective course;
  • gain 10 credit points for a listed elective course;
  • gain 40 credit points for dissertation courses.

Eligibility to undertake the Dissertation pathway will be determined by the Program Director and will be subject to the following criteria:

• Completion of the first 80 credit points of courses.
• Achievement of a minimum GPA of 5.0 across these courses.
• The suitability of the proposed dissertation topic and the resources available to support the candidature including the availability of appropriate supervision. A suitable dissertation topic and supervisory arrangements must be negotiated with the Program Director at least four weeks prior to enrolment in Part 1 of the Dissertation course. The final decision regarding admission to the Dissertation pathway is at the discretion of the Program Director.

Students who are not eligible to undertake the Dissertation pathway must complete the Standard pathway.

This degree may be awarded with Distinction where a student achieves a minimum program GPA of 6.5 with no failed courses. The words "This award was achieved with Distinction" will be recorded on the testamur.

Exit points

To be eligible to exit the Master of Primary Maternity Care program with the Graduate Certificate in Primary Maternity Care award, a student must acquire 40 credit points as prescribed below:

• gain 40 credit points for core courses.

To be eligible to exit the Master of Primary Maternity Care program with the Graduate Diploma of Primary Maternity Care award, a student must acquire 80 credit points as prescribed below:

• gain 60 credit points for core courses and
• gain 20 credit points from the listed electives

To exit, a student should apply for a program transfer.

Note: The Graduate Diploma exit point is not available to students admitted to the Masters program with advanced standing. Students who exit with the Graduate Diploma will not be eligible for re-admission to complete the Master of Primary Maternity Care.
