How to apply

Selection for admission to an undergraduate degree is made on the basis of academic merit.

Selection for admission is competitive as the number of applicants generally exceeds the places available. The minimum requirement for eligibility for admission is completion of Year 12 of secondary school or equivalent academic achievement.

Prerequisites for admission may be specified in terms of levels of achievement in particular Year 12 subjects. Prerequisite conditions may be satisfied by other study or experience which is considered to be equivalent to the Year 12 prerequisites. Domestic applicants from NSW and ACT should apply for admission through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).


Language requirements

As applicants who successfully complete the Diploma of Nursing Science will progress into the Bachelor of Nursing, an accredited degree, the language requirements have been set to ensure applicants Science meet both Griffith University language requirements and the registration standards specified by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). These standards are subject to change by the accrediting body.

English language requirements apply to applicants whose previous studies were completed in a country other than Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or the United States of America or undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:

  • Successful completion of at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English. At least two years of this education must have been between Grades 7 and 12. This education must have been taught and assessed in English and completed in one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America.
  • OR a minimum overall band score of 7.0 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 7.0
  • OR the Occupational English Test (OET) with a minimum score of B in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking)
  • OR an overall score of 65 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 65
  • OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL minimum total score of 94 and the following minimum scores in each section of the test:
    • 24 for listening | 24 for reading | 27 for writing | 23 for speaking.

    We will accept English language test scores from one test sitting OR a maximum of two test sittings in a six month period only if the following criteria are met:

    • IELTS (Academic): A minimum overall score of 7.0 is achieved in each sitting and the applicant achieves a minimum of 7.0 in each component across the two sittings and no score in any component of the test is below 6.5
    • OET: The applicant is tested in all four components in each sitting and a minimum score of B in each component is achieved across the two sittings and no score in any component of the test is below C
    • PTE (Academic): A minimum overall score of 65 is achieved in each sitting and the applicant achieves a minimum of 65 in each of the communicative skills across the two sittings and no score in any component of the test is below 58
    • TOEFL: A minimum total score of 94 is achieved in each sitting and the applicant achieves a minimum score of 24 for listening, 24 for reading, 27 for writing and 23 for speaking across the two sittings and no score in any of the sections is below:
    • 20 for listening | 19 for reading | 24 for writing | 20 for speaking.

English test results must be no more than two years old.
