The all-new Diploma of Nursing Science is scheduled to commence in Trimester 1 2025. This pathway program will prepare you to transition into the Bachelor of Nursing.

The Diploma of Nursing Science is your gateway to success in the nursing profession. You'll delve into essential courses such as Foundations of Professional Nursing, Communicating Effectively, and Human Anatomy and Physiology, all while experiencing a dynamic blend of classroom learning and hands-on experiences in our state-of-the-art nursing labs. 

Upon successful completion of this diploma, you will be offered guaranteed entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Nursing. Prior to enrolling in Year 2 courses, you'll undertake the intensive 1809NRS Effective Nursing Practices course at our Gold Coast Campus, approximately six weeks prior to the start of the university's first trimester.

Attendance information

The Diploma of Nursing Science is offered full-time and part-time on-campus.

As a full-time student you will generally attend 15-25 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the trimester.

Following successful completion of this diploma, if you continue into the Bachelor of Nursing, you will be required to commence your degree approximately six weeks prior to the start of the University's first trimester, to undertake the intensive offering of 1809NRS Effective Nursing Practice in Tri 1 at the Gold Coast Campus.

As this involves clinical placement, eligibility for enrolment is dependent on successful completion of the Diploma, of a set of mandatory requirements such as pre-placement orientation, health and security checks, immunisations, and acquiring additional clothing/ equipment. Further details will be provided by the School.

Student Income Support

To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each standard study period. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program is 30 credit points.

Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 are deemed standard study periods. As Trimester 3 is a non-standard study period, continuing students moving from one year to the next will not be required to study during this trimester to be eligible for student income support.

Domestic students who commence in Trimester 3 may be eligible for student income support from the onset of study provided they are enrolled full-time in this study period.

Graduate outcomes

Successful completion of the Diploma of Nursing Science will gain you entry to into the Bachelor Nursing. On completion of the Bachelor of Nursing, you will be eligible to become a Registered Nurse, equipped with the knowledge and skills to make critical decisions, coordinate care, educate patients and families, and provide leadership and supervision to Enrolled Nurses. 

The Diploma of Nursing Science will provide students the opportunity to diversify into other health and social care fields and seek employment as a support worker in the health and/or social care sectors.

Once you've successfully completed this diploma, you'll be offered guaranteed entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Nursing (1162).

Prior to enrolling in Year 2 courses, you will be required to undertake and successfully complete the intensive offering of 1809NRS Effective Nursing Practices at the Gold Coast Campus approximately six weeks prior to the start of the University's first trimester.
