Master of Information Technology

To be eligible for the award of Master of Information Technology (MIT), a student must acquire 160 credit points as prescribed below:

• Standard pathway:
• gain 40 credit points for the core courses
• gain 50 credit points for the IT foundation courses#
• gain 40 credit points for a major, or 40 credit points from the no major option
• gain 30 credit points for free-choice elective courses.
• Dissertation pathway:
• gain 30 credit points for the core courses
• gain 60 credit points for the IT foundation courses#
• gain 40 credit points for the Dissertation courses*
• gain 30 credit points for free-choice elective courses.

To be eligible for the award of Master of Information Technology (MIT), a student admitted with 40 credit points of advanced standing must acquire 120 credit points as prescribed below:

• Standard pathway:
• gain 40 credit points for the core courses
• gain 10 credit points for the IT foundation courses#
• gain 40 credit points for a major, or 40 credit points from the no major option
• gain 30 credit points for free-choice elective courses.
• Dissertation pathway:
• gain 30 credit points for the core courses
• gain 20 credit points for the IT foundation courses#
• gain 40 credit points for the Dissertation courses*
• gain 30 credit points for free-choice elective courses.

# Based on evidence of courses completed in their undergraduate studies, students may apply to the Program Director for approval to substitute any IT foundation courses with non-foundation ICT courses (subject to meeting any pre-requisite requirements).

* Students must have completed 40 credit points of courses towards the Master of Information Technology (MIT) and have a GPA of at least 6.0 prior to enrolment in the Dissertation courses. Enrolment in the Dissertation courses requires pre-approval from the Program Director.

This degree may be awarded with Distinction where a student achieves a minimum program GPA of 6.5 with no failed courses. The words "This award was achieved with Distinction" will be recorded on the testamur.

Exit point

To be eligible to exit the with the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology (GCertIT), a student must acquire 40 credit points as prescribed below:

• 40 credit points from the following IT foundation courses OR
• 30 credit points from the following IT foundation courses plus 10 credit points for 7011CAL Communication for IT Professionals.

• 7001ICT Programming Principles
• 7611ICT Computer Systems and Cyber Security
• 7002ICT Systems Development
• 7003ICT Database Design
• 7610ICT Application Systems

To exit, a student should apply for a program transfer.

Note: The Graduate Certificate exit point is not available to students admitted to the Masters program with advanced standing.
