Admission requirements

This program has been withdrawn and will not be available to commencing (new) students after Trimester 1-2018.
New students are referred to Doctor of Philosophy in Organisational Psychology (6027) which will be offered from 2019.

The following University policy will apply to Higher Degree Research (HDR) programs:

Academic requirements: Students with a Class I or Class IIA Honours degree may apply for entry to this program.

Personal and interpersonal effectiveness: Given the level of personal and interpersonal effectiveness required for successful practice, applicants will be expected to demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skill. A panel of staff will interview all eligible applicants.

Professional requirements: Admission to all postgraduate organisational Psychology programs is restricted to students who are registered Psychologists or who are eligible for probationary registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Language requirements

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to these programs are described below.

Credit and recognition of prior learning

Griffith University awards credit for prior learning which may relate to prior formal learning or prior informal and non-formal learning. For more information see below.

New students are referred to Doctor of Philosophy in Organisational Psychology (6027) which will be offered from 2019.

To prepare for completing your application online, you will need to:

  • check the Admission and English Language Proficiency requirements to find out if you are academically qualified to apply for this program;
  • check any program fees applicable to you if you were to undertake this program;
  • develop a proposed Research Topic and Research Proposal in your area of interest;
  • identify at least one potential Griffith supervisor who has reviewed your Research Proposal and has agreed to supervise you;
  • identify two Academic Referees who are willing to act as a Referee on your behalf;
  • develop a Curriculum Vitae (CV).

Extra information

In addition to your online application, applicants who apply for the Doctor of Philosophy in Organisational Psychology are required to use the Australian Psychology Postgraduate Program Reference Request System. The Reference Request System allows applicants for Australian postgraduate programs in Psychology to apply for a reference from academic and/or professional referees and for these references to be shared with the nominated institutions. For further information regarding this system, please visit the Reference Request System website.

The process is as follows:

  • The applicant registers online via the Reference Request System website and pays the $25 subscription fee.
  • The applicant nominates referees and indicates the programs and institutions to which they are applying. The applicant is required to provide two references.
  • The referees complete a reference online.
  • The applicant then allows the completed references to be shared with the programs to which they have applied.
  • This system is the same across all Australian Universities. To be able to use the system, you will need to have an active subscription which can be paid through the 'My Account' section in the payment tab.

Language requirements

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to Higher Degree Research (HDR) programs in Psychology are as follows:

  • A minimum overall band score of 7.0 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 7.0
  • English test results must be no more than two years old.

The Direct Entry Program (DEP) pathway is not accepted for this program.
