About this program

This degree, designed for high-achieving secondary school leavers, provides the opportunity for you to progress directly into our Doctor of Medicine (5099)*.

In your first year, you will be introduced to the basic sciences underpinning medical science - chemistry, biology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, genetics, and biostatistics. You will also undertake a course in health and science communication where you will learn to evaluate health and science information and communicate it to a wide range of audiences.

In second year, you will study these areas in greater depth and take medically focused courses in immunology, infectious disease, pharmacology, and biochemistry. You'll also learn to integrate and apply the knowledge learned in your first and second year by studying our Integrative Medical Sciences course. You'll understand the concepts of foundational sciences that underpin disease and develop skills of problem-solving and clinical reasoning.

Honours is available through an additional year of study.

* The Doctor of Medicine is an extended Masters program (AQF Level 9).

Pathways to further study

Provisional entry into the Griffith Doctor of Medicine program

Completion of the Bachelor of Medical Science program with a GPA of at least 5.5 will see graduates gain seamless entry into the Doctor of Medicine (5099).

The type of place in the Doctor of Medicine program offered to Bachelor of Medical Science graduates who meet the requirements will be allocated according to the GPA achieved in the Bachelor of Medical Science taking into account individual preferences.

In the interests of equity and fairness, applicants who do not achieve the GPA regardless of circumstances such as illness, misadventure or disadvantage during the Bachelor of Medical Science program will not meet the stated criteria and, therefore, will not be considered for provisional entry to the Doctor of Medicine program via this pathway.

For admission requirements beyond Provisional entry into the Griffith Doctor of Medicine pathway, visit Doctor of Medicine (5099).
