About this program

From Trimester 2 2025, Mt Gravatt courses will be moving to Brisbane South (Nathan). Inspire a love of learning and create a brighter future for all

Everyone has that one teacher that always believed in them. Be that teacher for your students and help shape the next generation.

Teacher education at Griffith has a focus on wellbeing and inclusive education, ensuring you enter the classroom with the skills to make a difference. Your studies will follow one of the below paths:

  • Bachelor of Education (Primary & Early Childhood)
  • Bachelor of Education (Primary)
  • Bachelor of Education (Secondary)

In line with our belief that education should be for everyone, you'll develop strategies and resources to prepare you to teach learners from diverse academic and personal backgrounds. Throughout your study, you will hone your curriculum planning skills, and build your confidence to design, deliver and evaluate lessons to ensure you graduate as an experienced and capable educator.

Bachelor of Education (Primary)

Our primary education curriculum covers areas such as history and geography, the way language develops and works, mathematics, science and technology, health and physical education, and the arts.

You can also choose to specialise in early childhood education, health and physical education, special needs education, English, mathematics or science.

Bachelor of Education (Secondary)

You'll learn the knowledge and skills to teach students through years 7 to 12 and can choose to undertake studies in two teaching areas, or one teaching area and the Learning Support major (conditions apply to some teaching area combinations). We offer a large range of secondary teaching areas, including:

  • biology
  • chemistry^
  • design technology
  • digital technologies
  • drama
  • English
  • food and nutrition
  • geography
  • health and physical education
  • history
  • mathematics
  • physics
  • psychology
  • visual arts.

For Teaching Area Content offered online, ensure you review course information for the most current and accurate details regarding online and on-campus attendance.

^ Other teaching area must be Biology, Mathematics or Food and Nutrition.

Powerful partnerships

Benefit from our strong relationships with schools and industry partners, as well as international experiences, if you choose. During your studies, you will undertake 80 days of supervised professional experience, and we have a dedicated placement officer to assist in organising your placement.

Meet your maths prerequisite

Ready to study a teaching degree at university but don't have the maths prerequisite? Successfully completing Griffith's Bridging Maths for Aspiring Educators course will meet your subject requirements for entry into our education degree-and you could start your studies in the next available trimester. This course is delivered over six weeks in on-campus and online modes.

Attendance information

The Bachelor of Education is offered full-time on-campus, with options for flexible online study. It is a 4 year full-time program however it can be completed in 3.5 years full-time in an accelerated mode, which requires undertaking some courses in Trimester 3. Some courses in this program may not follow the standard academic calendar. After enrolling, check your timetable on myGriffith for course and professional experience requirements.

Student Income Support

To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each standard study period. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program is 30 credit points.

Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 are deemed standard study periods. As Trimester 3 is a non-standard study period, continuing students moving from one year to the next will not be required to study during this trimester to be eligible for student income support.

Domestic students who commence in Trimester 3 may be eligible for student income support from the onset of study provided they are enrolled full-time in this study period.

Please refer to the Australian Government website for more details.

My career opportunities

With real classroom experience in every year of study, you'll be career-ready, sooner.

As a graduate, you'll be eligible to apply for registration with the Queensland College of Teachers. The Early Childhood Major is recognised by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority. Students wishing to seek teacher registration in another state should seek advice from that state's appropriate professional body.

Applicants wishing to obtain registration in NSW will need to ensure that they meet the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) registration requirements.
